While emailing my team about my current project, the function name “getMetadata” tripped the ThunderBird chelling specker, which suggested I might wish to replace this word with “vegetated”!

I stumbled across a link I bookmarked many, many years ago last night and (thanks to a couple of minutes on Google) managed to find the page again, as it’s original host had removed it.

Enigma is a UCLA organization which exists for people who, in their own words: “share interests in gaming, science fiction, fantasy, and other shiny goodness.”

Hmm – Your initial thought might be light-sensitive nerds swapping D&D scores and screen grabs from World Of Warcraft (and this may well be true! B->), but this particular set of pages makes for interesting reading.

Again, in their own words: “In 1990 Enigma created its own “future history“, attempting to create a plausible, or at least entertaining, description of the events over the next 130 years of Earth’s history.”

Now having looked at their predictions over the past few years, they’re a little wide of the mark, but there is still value is considering their view of the future, even if only from an entertainment point of view.

I wonder how many Sci-Fi authors have obtained their plot lines from these pages? B->

A little while ago it was popular among the ColdFusion Development community to create a Simpsons character that looked like yourself. I did as everyone else did, but as I wasn’t actively blogging at the time, the file stayed on my desktop until I decided it was time to tidy up on the train this morning.

Starbucks

As I’m a coffee lover (I wouldn’t say connoisseur, but I do like good coffee) and as I’m working in Central London quite a bit these days, I decided to get a Starbucks card this morning.

I tried to register it later, but discovered that I couldn’t click the button on their website, it just refused to work.

I thought: ‘possible Firefox problem’ (2.0.0.7 does seem to drop it’s pants quite a bit), so tried Safari – still no joy.

Opera came next – no dice.

Finally I fired up my XP VM and tried IE7 (I know, I feel dirty! B->).

Guess what?  Yep, worked like a charm.

Peacock

I got home from work yesterday and my Brother-in-law pointed out that there was a Peacock sitting on our neighbour’s roof!

That was strange enough, but I heard a odd noise just before going to work this morning and my Sister-in-law discovered that the original Peacock was still on the neighbour’s roof, but now there’s another one in one of the trees in our front garden!

It just gets stranger and stranger.

We discovered that a local business man was known to keep Peacocks, but when my Brother-in-law checked, his were all accounted for, so we have no idea where they’re from.

This evening, they’re both sitting by the pool in the back garden. The RSPCA have been informed and we’re waiting for them to arrive.

Very strange!
